JAPAN AIRLINES Corporation or JAL — is the national airline and the main air carrier of Japan, one of the largest airlines in Asia, a member of the Oneworld alliance. It's based at Tokyo airports Narita (international flights) Haneda (domestic flights). JAPAN AIRLINES carries out regular international and domestic flights to 125 airports around the world.
JAPAN AIRLINES was founded on October 1, 1953, when the Japanese government made a decision about creating a national airline. In 1953 the airlines made its first international and transoceanic flight to USA. The company was fully privatised in 1987. In 2002, JAPAN AIRLINES was merged with Japan Air System, which was at that time the third largest air carrier of the country. In 2008, JAPAN AIRLINES carried 50 million passengers. JAPAN AIRLINES passed the IATA security audit.
The fleet of JAPAN AIRLINES includes Boeing 787, 767 and 777 aircrafts for long distances and Boeing 737 aircraft for short distances. The cargo division of the airline, JAL Cargo, uses cargo planes manufactured by Boeing. JALways, a tourist division of the airline, operated flights to Polynesia and South-East Asia until 2010. JAPAN AIRLINES has 6 subdivisions operating on domestic routes: Hokkaido Air System, JAL Express, J-Air, Japan Air Commuter, Japan Transocean Air and Ryukyu Air Commuter, which operates flights to secondary airports.
